Born and raised in Goa, Laxmikant Kattimani began his senior professional career with Vasco SC during their debut I-League season in 2008-09. The following year, he joined Dempo SC, where he spent seven successful seasons, winning the I-League twice in 2009-10 and 2011-12.
His consistent performances then earned him a spot at FC Goa for the inaugural Indian Super League (ISL) season in 2014. In the 2015 season, the shot-stopper played a key role in helping the team top the league standings and reach the ISL Cup final.

After a brief return to Dempo SC, where he won promotion back to the I-League, Kattimani rejoined the Men in Orange for the 2016 ISL season. His journey then took him to Mumbai FC on loan, followed by a multi-year contract signing with the Gaurs ahead of the 2017-18 season. In 2019, the goalkeeper moved to Hyderabad FC, where he enjoyed a successful five-year spell.
His most notable achievement with the Nizams came in the 2021-22 season when he played a pivotal role in their ISL Cup triumph under then-head coach Manolo Marquez, with whom he will now reunite at FC Goa. In the final that year, held at the Gaurs’ home ground in Fatorda, Kattimani made crucial saves, including three in the penalty shootout, to secure the trophy.
Overall, the 35-year-old has accumulated over 175 club appearances, keeping 55 clean sheets. His experience also extends to the international stage, having represented India at various youth levels, including being part of the India U23 team that won the SAFF Championship in Bangladesh in 2009.
FC Goa Head Coach Manolo Marquez expressed his thoughts on the 35-year-old’s signing, saying, “Kattimani brings with him a wealth of experience and a calm, mature presence that is invaluable to any team. His performances in high-pressure situations, especially during Hyderabad’s ISL Cup-winning campaign, speak volumes about his capabilities.”
“Beyond his skills on the field, he is a true professional who sets a great example by guiding and working closely with the younger goalkeepers in the squad,” the Spaniard added.
Reflecting on his return to FC Goa, Laxmikant Kattimani commented, “Returning to FC Goa feels like coming back home. This Club has always been a special place for me, with its passionate fanbase and a strong footballing culture. The Club’s ambition to continue competing at the highest level aligns perfectly with my personal goals, making it the best next step for my career.”
“Reuniting with coach Manolo Marquez is also something I’m really looking forward to. Our success together at Hyderabad FC is something I cherish, and his philosophy and approach to the game resonate with me. His presence here certainly played a role in my decision. Coach Asier Rey’s communication skills and training helped me to improve as a goalkeeper a lot and I hope to continue to do the same again this year,” he added.
“My primary objective this season is to help FC Goa compete for the top honours in every competition we play. I want to contribute to a team culture that values hard work, unity, and resilience. Personally, I aim to bring my best every day, on and off the pitch, to help the Club achieve their goals and bring joy to our fans,” he concluded.

As the premier showcase of top racing talent from India and beyond, we pride ourselves on delivering exhilarating action.”
“With new teams, a night race, and a unique franchise-based format featuring both men and women racers competing on the same track, this season promises unmatched thrills. Building on the excitement of the past two seasons, we are solidifying our place as India’s premier motorsport event,” he added.
Raoul Hyman, a successful British-South African driver, will be one of the returning faces in the IRL this season, alongside his partner from the previous year, Sohil Shah. In the IRL, two teammates share one car across five intense rounds, with the highest-scoring pair winning the Car Championship and the highest-scoring cars winning the Team Championship. Hyman and Shah had clinched the 2023 Car Championship by earning the most points.
Shah, one of the many promising Indian drivers vying for glory in the IRL, said, “The Indian Racing League is a testament to the excitement and passion for motorsports in our country. It’s amazing to witness and be a part of the budding motorsports scene in India. The grid here is extremely competitive, pushing each of us to our limits and showcasing the immense talent we have.”
The six teams will feature two Indian and two foreign racers, including one female. As such, six women racers will compete with their male counterparts on the same track, all whizzing around in their rapid Wold Thunder GB08s, the single-seater cars that can achieve a top speed of 240 kmph. This year, the returning Fabienne Wolhwend and Gabriel Jilkova, among others, will try to match Sarah Moore’s accomplishment from 2023, when she became the first female race winner in IRL history.
Wohlwend, who finished second twice in IRL 2022 and won the Team Championship, will be participating this season too and said, “Participating in the Indian Racing League has been an incredible experience. It is exciting to be part of the world’s first gender-inclusive franchise racing league, where everyone has a chance to shine. The spirit here is unmatched, driving us all to achieve our best. The growing popularity of the league among Indian fans is truly inspiring, too, and their support motivates us to push even harder.”
The IRL also serves as a thrilling stage for rising stars like Ruhaan Alva, who made history last year as the youngest race winner. Joining him are peers Shahan Ali Mohsin and Rishon Rajeev, fresh off their successes in the Formula 4 Indian Championship, and debutant Julius Dinesen, a 17-year-old prodigy from Denmark with a F4 title to his name.

SA20 2025: Paarl Royals bolster squad with the addition of Jacob Bethell and Sam Hain 9 Aug 2024, 5:06 am
The post SA20 2025: Paarl Royals bolster squad with the addition of Jacob Bethell and Sam Hain appeared first on The Sports News.
Royals Sports Group-owned franchise Paarl Royals announced the signing of English all-rounder Jacob Bethell and batter Sam Hain for the upcoming season of the SA20 League (SA20 2025).
Earlier, Paarl Royals announced the addition of two greats of the game, Dinesh Karthik and Joe Root for the SA20 2025.
The English duo have been in fine form during the current season of The Hundred and are set to bolster the Royals’ squad with their exploits. Both Bethell and Hain join their compatriot, legendary batter Joe Root, who was announced as a signing by the franchise last month.
Bethell was born and raised in Barbados and won a sports scholarship to the Rugby School in Warwickshire at the age of 13. Having started off as a spin bowler who could bat, Bethell moved up the age groups at Warwickshire with his all-round attributes. He was also part of the England Men’s U19 team that reached the Finals of the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup in 2022, playing the role of an opener.
He has since been involved with his county across all three formats, impressing both with the bat and ball. In 38 T20s so far, he has accumulated 676 runs at a strike rate of over 140 with the majority of his runs coming in boundaries. This year, the youngster has enjoyed a steady start to the T20 Blast, scoring 356 runs at a strike rate of 155.45 and picking up 6 wickets at an economy of just 6.78. In the ongoing The Hundred, the left-hander is second on the list of most runs scored with 111 runs in 3 matches for Birmingham Phoenix.
Meanwhile, Hain was born in Hong Kong and spent his early days in Australia, but moved to England almost a decade back, becoming eligible to represent the country. He came to the limelight after having a stellar 2022 season where he scored over a thousand runs to keep Warwickshire in the top division. He has been an exceptional performer in First Class, List A and T20 cricket, being one of the top-performing batters on the circuit.
Known for his low-risk shot selection, the ability to find the gaps, rotate strike, and play spin well, Hain has gone on to represent a variety of T20 franchises around the world, and is set to make his SA20 debut in Season 3. He has scored over 4500 runs in 155 T20 matches at a strike rate of 133.95.
Welcoming the two players to the franchise, Royals’ Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, said, “Both Jacob (Bethell) and Sam (Hain) are highly rated individuals as their recent performances have shown and will add to the depth of our squad. Jacob’s explosive style of play and game awareness are assets that will prove to be extremely useful in the conditions we play in, in the SA20, both at home in Paarl and away. Meanwhile, Sam’s hard-hitting ability to make an instant impact with the bat has really come to the fore recently, and we are all very excited to see what he can deliver for us at Paarl. We are looking forward to having them both with the Royals for Season 3.”

He represented India in 180 international matches across formats and registered 172 dismissals to his name through his sharp and reliable glove work behind the stumps. DK, as he is fondly known, last played competitive cricket during this year’s IPL for RCB where he played a crucial role in the team’s playoffs qualification, scoring 326 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 187.36.

Welcoming Karthik to the franchise, Royals’ Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara said, “Dinesh has served as one of the modern-day greats for India in white ball cricket, and his wealth of experience will contribute to the making of our side for Season 3. He has always proved to be a great asset for the teams he’s represented across leagues for the way he approaches the game and the impact he can make, so it’s an exciting signing for us and we look forward to having him with the group at Paarl.”
Meanwhile, Karthik also shared his thoughts on the prospect of returning to cricket and playing in the SA20. He said, “I have so many fond memories of playing in and visiting South Africa, and when this opportunity came about, I couldn’t say no because of how special it would be to come back to playing competitive cricket and win this incredible competition with the Royals.”
He added, “Even though I didn’t have the chance to represent the Royals in the IPL, to me it was always a franchise setup and environment that was very attractive as a player. I am delighted to be joining the Paarl Royals team which oozes a lot of experience, quality and potential. I am certainly looking forward to joining the group and contributing to what should be an exciting season.”
The signing of Karthik means the Paarl Royals will have a formidable side going into the Auction, with captain David Miller, Joe Root, Lungi Ngidi, Bjorn Fortuin, Andile Phehlukwayo, Mitchell van Buuren, Codi Yusuf, Keith Dudgeon, Nqaba Peter, Kwena Maphaka, Lhuandre Pretorius and Dayyaan Galiem among the players who have signed for Season 3.
