Are neutron stars mega-atoms? 3 Apr 2023, 10:07 pm

The notion of neutron stars as colossal atoms does not accurately represent this celestial phenomenon. While neutron stars share some similarities with atomic structures, such as their small size and incredibly high densities, the comparison between neutron stars and atoms is more of an analogy than a literal description. Neutron stars are not composed of protons, neutrons, and electrons arranged into atoms but consist of densely packed neutrons resulting from extreme gravitational forces that collapse the core of massive stars.

Universe’s Existence: Arguments 3 Apr 2023, 6:57 pm

The question of why the universe exists rather than not exists has puzzled humans for millennia. Early Greek philosophers like Parmenides, Plato, and Aristotle speculated about the origins and nature of the universe. However, it was only with the rise of modern science in the 17th century that the question was addressed more systematically and rigorously.

Nothing in something: Vacuum energy 29 Mar 2023, 9:14 pm

Can nothing, an absolute vacuum, be an energy carrier? We will leave it to philosophers whether an absolute vacuum can be considered such and focus on the astronomical, cosmological, and scientific aspects.
Something in nothing?
Vacuum energy is a concept in quantum physics that describes the energy in space, also known as the vacuum.

Religious implications of space travel 27 Mar 2023, 8:02 pm

The claim that astronauts who have visited the moon tend to become religious is exciting but only partially supported by facts.
The moon in different religions
The moon has been a central object of religious significance in many cultures throughout history. In ancient times, the moon was often associated with feminine deities such as Artemis in Greek mythology, Luna in Roman mythology, and Selene in Greek mythology.

Common misconceptions about the Big Bang 26 Mar 2023, 8:13 pm

The discovery of the Big Bang is inarguably one of the most significant scientific breakthroughs. Even though few are university scholars in astronomy, many more have strong opinions and beliefs about the Big Bang. Several “facts” among the general public are outright incorrect. Herein we aspire to debunk six of the most common myths.

Cosmic time-travel: The oldest galaxy 26 Mar 2023, 8:31 am

Galaxies are a fascinating subject of study and provide critical insights into the universe’s evolution. Studying galaxies has always fascinated astronomers, astrophysicists, and cosmologists alike. The oldest known galaxy in the universe is GN-z11, with a redshift value of 11.1, corresponding to a distance of approximately 32 billion light-years from Earth.

Constant mass or changing universe? 23 Mar 2023, 9:32 pm

To inquire whether the universe’s mass is constant is a question that has perplexed many great minds throughout history. Indeed, the notion of a continuous universe was a prevailing scientific belief for centuries until later discoveries and theories challenged it. In this article, we shall provide a comprehensive and elaborate response to this inquiry by delving into the historical background of this subject matter, examining the idea of a static universe, exploring the implications of General Relativity and the Big Bang Theory, and ultimately addressing the question at hand.

The atom is not a miniature solar system 14 Mar 2023, 8:56 pm

Atoms have long been a subject of fascination for scientists and laypersons interested in natural sciences. At the dawn of the atomic era, many physicists and chemists used the metaphor of a miniature solar system to explain the structure of the atom. However, as our understanding of physics and chemistry has advanced, we now know that atoms are not, in fact, miniature solar systems.

Exploring a hypothetical Super-Earth 14 Mar 2023, 6:22 pm

Adding a Super-Earth planet to our solar system would significantly affect the dynamics and stability of the existing planets. This report will explore the hypothetical consequences of adding a new giant planet between Mars and Jupiter, close to the Sun or outside the gas giants.
A thought-experiment
For several reasons, a Super-Earth is often used in computer simulations to perturb our solar system.
