One-party state: If this is what Nigerians want, so be it - Ganduje 11 May 2025, 3:58 am
The National chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has dismissed fears being expressed by some members of the opposition party that Nigeria is drifting towards a one-party State.

While addressing State House Correspondents after meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, May 9, Ganduje said the ruling party cannot quarrel with Nigerians if APC controls virtually all states and the centre.
Ganduje who led three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators who agreed to move to the APC to see President Tinubu said,
“Leaders worried on one party state…If one-party state is a wish and blessing to Nigeria… One party state is not by force, it is by negotiation and it is by other political parties seeing the effect of the positive governance of our party. If they decide to come to our party willingly, I think there is nothing wrong with that.
Today China is one of the strongest countries in the world and it’s a one party system. We are not saying we are working for one-party system but if this is the wish of Nigerians, we cannot quarrel with that. You know they say to0 many cooks spoil the soup, too many political parties spoil governance.”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, says only the blind will accuse President Tinubu of not transforming the FCT.

While speaking during an inspection of some projects in Abuja, Wike said;
“Mr President has given first-class infrastructure to Abuja. All of you can attest to the fact that, indeed, Abuja has really changed. So, we are happy for it. I want to thank God Almighty for providing the right leadership to Mr President to provide the dividends of democracy to the residents of Abuja. I don’t see why anybody would say that Mr President has not done well, except you are just blind. Except, you don’t want to admit something that you know that is good. We are happy that we have fulfilled the promises that we have made.''

Popular Facebook nurse calls out her sister and their mother 11 May 2025, 3:37 am
A Nigerian nurse has called out her mother on Facebook.

The nurse, known on the platform as Nurse Glory, is popular for her content surrounding her Serbian husband and mixed-race kids.
However, in recent times, she has been on the platform fighting her twin sister, and most recently her mother.
She accused her Nigerian family of feeling entitled to her and her husband's money. She added that they are now fighting her because she decided to stop letting them "manipulate" her by taking her money.
Calling out her mother, the nurse wrote: "When I had JJ in Dubai, my mom and my son success couldn’t visit me due to visa ban. ( it was because of them we rented that big house but unfortunately they didn’t come, which was why my mom in-law and her daughter came to help because they don’t need visa to Dubai) Instead of understanding, she accused my husband of not wanting her to come to Dubai (saying he’s doing juju on me).
"I told her she would come and stay with me in Serbia but instead she insulted Serbia and said she doesn’t want to go to that poor country ( but your Nigerian passport couldn’t bring you to Dubai)
"Now, my sister has applied for a UK visa for her three times, and she’s been denied each time, yet she hasn’t accused her favorite son-in-law of blocking her visit or calling him a wizard.
"On top of that, they expected us to help with money for the UK trip. I genuinely didn’t have the means at the time as I was saving up for uche, but my mom still called us names as if she was in our bank account.
"I pray she gets the visa and leave Nigeria, maybe her mentality would change."

I won’t contest or accept government appointment in Nigeria again - Utomi says after forming shadow government 11 May 2025, 3:33 am
Professor of political economy, Pat Utomi, has firmly ruled out any future bid for public office or acceptance of government appointments in Nigeria, declaring that his focus is solely on the well-being of future generations and not political ambitions or personal gain.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Utomi emphasized his desire to remain free from the corruption he believes often characterizes public life in the country.
“Let me state clearly, I will not run for public office, I will not accept an appointment, contract by any government in Nigeria. My only concern is the well-being of the next generation,” he said. “I have lived my life decently without government money or stealing anybody’s thing. I want to take that away from people who talk nonsense like, ‘Oh, he is looking for contract.’”
Utomi also highlighted the importance of a shadow government as a tool for promoting democratic accountability, describing it as a legitimate and structured way for citizens to demand transparency and responsibility from those in power. “Nothing can be more democratic than a group of citizens coming together to find a structured way of asking the government to be more accountable. What could be more democratic than that?” he asked.
He further called on Nigerians to consult the Afrobarometer readings, a respected public opinion survey that has tracked democratic attitudes across Africa since 1999, in order to better understand the continent’s political trajectory. “I usually pre-phase this conversation with what we’ve done to the African. There are Afrobarometer readings, an annual survey that has been going on since 1999, of how Nigerians, Africans generally, in every country, with all kinds of details. I mean all kinds of details,” he said.
“I want all Nigerians and who really want to understand what has happened to our country to go and study the Afrobarometer readings.”
Utomi noted that while Africans continue to value democracy, there is mounting frustration over its failure to deliver tangible results. “It states that Africans still love democracy, cling to it but they are tired because their democracies are not working,” he said. “Any serious democrat has to read this data, longitudinal data showing that people are fed up with what we call democracy.”
European Leaders threaten Russia with massive sanctions as they demand 30-Day ceasefire in Ukraine 11 May 2025, 3:19 am
The leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Poland have issued a unified demand to Russian President Vladimir Putin: agree to a 30-day ceasefire starting Monday or face sweeping sanctions.

The message was delivered during a symbolic visit to Kyiv, backed by a joint call with US President Donald Trump.
Standing beside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the leaders — French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk — insisted the ceasefire be observed on land, at sea, and in the air. If successful, it would lay the groundwork for immediate peace negotiations.
The unconditional ceasefire means no conditions,” Zelensky said.“Any attempt to impose conditions is a signal to drag out the war and block diplomacy.” he added
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded, saying Russia is “resistant to any kind of pressure,” though he confirmed Putin supports the idea of a ceasefire “in general.” He added, however, that there are “lots of questions” about the proposal that still need to be addressed.
The demand gives Russia fewer than 36 hours to respond. It also requires rapid implementation of a satellite-based monitoring and communication mechanism.
The four European leaders arrived together by train early Saturday and were welcomed by Zelensky’s chief of staff. They first paid tribute to Ukraine’s fallen soldiers at Independence Square, followed by a private meeting at Mariinsky Palace that lasted over three hours. Afterward, they held a conference call with President Trump, which Ukrainian officials described as “positive and concrete.”
For the past two months, Ukraine and its European allies have pushed for a ceasefire. Russia, while agreeing in principle, has raised objections, including calls to halt the flow of Western weapons to Ukraine. Putin has also repeated concerns over NATO’s expansion, framing it as a core issue in the conflict.
In a recent Truth Social post, Trump warned that “if the ceasefire is not respected, the US and its partners will impose further sanctions,” signaling growing frustration with Moscow.
While Russia declared a 72-hour unilateral ceasefire around its Victory Day commemorations, Ukrainian forces reported renewed artillery fire just minutes past midnight. Video evidence presented to media outlets showed a large buildup of Russian troops and armor, contradicting the ceasefire claims.
Despite these developments, the Kremlin has stuck to offering short-term, unilateral ceasefires rather than committing to a longer truce. The latest is set to expire at midnight.
The May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, underscoring Russia’s ongoing push for international legitimacy amid increasing global pressure.
Meanwhile, Ukraine reported hundreds of Russian attacks across the front lines during the supposed ceasefire. Though large-scale missile and drone strikes on cities have paused since Wednesday, the threat remains. The US embassy in Kyiv issued a security alert Friday, citing intelligence about a potential “significant air attack” in the coming days.
US warns Iran Nuclear talks will end if Sunday Meeting isn’t Productive 11 May 2025, 3:17 am
The United States has warned that upcoming high-level talks with Iran scheduled for Sunday may be the final round if no meaningful progress is made.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff stated that the talks, set to take place in Oman, must be productive or “they won’t continue,” and that Washington will be forced to “take a different route.”
Witkoff emphasized that the US had postponed previous talks to first reach key understandings with Iran to ensure future discussions are substantive.
Hopefully this Sunday they will be productive. Hopefully that means they will continue those talks,” he said.
According to sources familiar with the plans, only top-level officials will attend the talks. The technical negotiating teams — typically responsible for detailed discussions on issues like sanctions relief — will not be present. One source confirmed the talks would include both direct and indirect exchanges.
Witkoff laid out US expectations more explicitly than before, stating: “An enrichment program can never exist in the state of Iran ever again. That’s our red line. No enrichment. That means dismantlement, it means no weaponization, and it means that Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan—those are their three enrichment facilities—have to be dismantled.”
Iran has long insisted on its right to enrich uranium. “Iran has every right to possess the full nuclear fuel cycle,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X last week. Araghchi is expected to meet Witkoff during the Sunday talks.
Drawing a parallel to US diplomacy with Russia, Witkoff suggested that incentives might be offered to Iran in return for nuclear compliance. “We’re inviting Iran to be a member of the league of nations,” he said. “We’re saying to Iran: ‘You can be a better nation. We can do business with you. We can have strategic relationships with you. But you can’t be a provocateur.’”
Witkoff also confirmed that Iran reiterated it does not seek a nuclear weapon, a position Tehran has maintained for years.
The envoy clarified that the discussions are strictly focused on the nuclear issue, separating them from broader concerns about Iran’s regional behavior. “Do we think they need to stop enabling Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and pulling back from being a provocateur? We do. But that’s a secondary discussion,” he said. “The nuclear issue is the existential one — it must be solved now, and it must be solved quickly.”
Pakistan reopens airspace after ceasefire with India 11 May 2025, 3:14 am
Pakistan reopened its airspace to all commercial and military flights on Saturday following a ceasefire agreement with India. The decision came after several days of intense cross-border hostilities, which were triggered by Pakistan’s missile and drone attacks on Indian infrastructure. These attacks were a retaliation for India's precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, which was aimed at dismantling terror launchpads in Pakistan, following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that killed 26 civilians, mostly Hindus.

An official statement from the Pakistan Airports Authority confirmed that all airports across the country had resumed normal operations starting at 5:00 PM IST. "Pakistan’s airspace has been completely reopened for all types of flights," the statement read.
Before the reopening, Pakistan had suspended all flights and closed several airways, including those over Lahore and Karachi, due to the heightened risk of military activity. This closure caused significant disruptions to global aviation, with many international flights being rerouted or cancelled.
The ceasefire agreement was formally announced by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a brief press conference in New Delhi. Misri stated that the Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan had called his counterpart in India at 3:35 PM IST. The two sides agreed to halt all military actions in the air, on land, and at sea, effective from 5:00 PM IST. Both sides were instructed to ensure full implementation of the agreement, and further talks were scheduled for May 12 at noon.
Tensions had escalated after India’s strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday, which were a response to the Pahalgam attack. In retaliation, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks targeting Indian military and civilian installations along the western border. India responded by countering Pakistan’s multi-domain offensive, which included drones, fighter jets, and long-range missiles.
US President Donald Trump and his administration claimed credit for mediating the ceasefire. Trump stated that he had facilitated dialogue between the two nations, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio tweeted that discussions between India and Pakistan would soon take place at a neutral location. However, Indian government sources clarified that there was no decision for talks beyond the ceasefire.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, acknowledged the ceasefire and confirmed its implementation at 4:30 PM Pakistan time. He warned that Pakistan would respond to any aggression from India, while also thanking the international community for facilitating the agreement.
As the airspace reopens and diplomatic channels resume, attention is now focused on whether the ceasefire will hold and whether Pakistan will adhere to its peace rhetoric or revert to its usual pattern of provocation.
2025 UTME: JAMB Releases Results Of Over 1.9m Candidates, Withholds 39,834 10 May 2025, 5:35 am
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 1.951, 811 candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) while withholding 39,834 results.
This is even as it revealed that 80 suspects are currently under interrogation for examination fraud as Anambra State tops with 14 suspects, Lagos, 9, Delta, 8, Kano, 7, Kaduna and Rivers 6 each. Ebonyi and Enugu followed with 5 each, Imo and Ondo, 3 each, Nasarawa, Abia, Plateau , 2 each while the other 8 states had 1 each.
The results statistics showed that of the 1,955,069 results released, only 420,415 candidates attained scores above 200, while just 12,414 candidates, equivalent to 0.63% of total participants, scored 300 and above, placing them among the highest achievers in this year’s exam.
The breakdown shows that 4, 756 candidates scored 320 and above, while 7,658 scored between 300 and 319. Also, 73,441 candidates (3.76%) scored 250 to 299, while 334,560 (17.11%) scored 200 – 249.
While 983,187 (50.29%) scored 160 -199, and 488,197 (24.97%) scored 140 – 159.
At the lowest point is 57,419 (2.94%) candidates who scored 120 – 139 while
3,820 (0.20%) candidates scored 100 – 119 and 2,031 (0.10%) scored below 100.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who stated this on Friday while officially releasing the 2025 UTME in Abuja, said: “A total of 39, 834 results remain unreleased. Of these, 1,426 results are under scrutiny and processing.”
He explained out of the total number of 2,030,862 candidates registered for the 2025 UTME, 1,957,000 were successfully verified for the examination, 71,705 were absent and a total of 2,157 candidates’ fingerprints were rejected by the machines as invalid.
“This failure was beyond the acceptable normal margin of failure. Subsequent discoveries in this regard indicated that a number of the candidates whose fingers were unrecognised had one question of registration infraction or another to answer. Each of these cases would be reviewed and determined on its merit,” he said.
Oloyede further said of the 41,027 registered underaged candidates, 40,260 sat for the examination whose UTME results are being isolated for further tests to identify the normally few exceptional candidates.
“Consequently, results for 1,911,551 candidates have been released (which makes the available results to be 1.951, 811).”
He also disclosed that while 41,027 underaged candidates registered for the exercise, 467 met the prescribed minimum score, adding that 50 were engaged in cheating.
“The 466 successful candidates have been notified of their achievement while those who do not meet the threshold are notified of their inability to meet the prescribed minimum score,” he said.
The JAMB Boss said statistics from the 2025 UTME indicate a significant reduction in cases of examination infractions, saying, while there is still much work to be done to eradicate these issues entirely, the various innovative measures introduced by the board were proving effective.
“A total of 96 results have been withheld on account of examination infractions, a decrease from 123 the previous year, while further results remain under investigation. The Board remains resolute in its commitment to eliminating any form of examination malpractice,” he said.
He also disclosed that 82 inmates of correctional centres nearing the end of their sentences successfully participated in examinations
Speaking of challenges of the biometric verification process, he said 2,157 candidates whose biometric authentication was used to print their registration slips failed to confirm their candidature, preventing them from sitting the examination.
“This situation is currently under investigation, and the outcome will be made public, with those found not to be at fault rescheduled to sit the examination at designated centres.Currently, the Board is harvesting the biometrics of impersonators caught during the examination while investigating the extent of the impact of biometric contributors on the system,” he said.
He also disclosed that some candidates acquired double NINs in order to do double registration despite the warnings, while some engaged in impersonation among other infractions.

Peter Obi, Alex Otti Will Be Expelled — Labour Party’s Arabambi 10 May 2025, 4:40 am
A factional leader of the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, has said that the party will soon hold a National Convention where it plans to expel Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti, and others who are currently suspended.
Arabambi, the factional Publicity Secretary of the LP, made this known during an interview on Television Continental (TVC). He accused the former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti of causing problems within the party.
“These characters that are troubling our party are a few selfish Nigerians that are after their own personal aggrandisement. We will not allow them to ruin our party,” Arabambi said.
He insisted that the Supreme Court never removed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the party, contrary to what some other factions claim.
When asked about how the party planned to restore peace, Arabambi replied that a National Convention was the only solution.
“There can be only one solution which a National Convention will soon unleash. It is to expel Peter Obi, Governor Alex Oti and others. They’re currently under suspension. I assure you that they will be expelled soon,” he said.
Arabambi also dismissed corruption allegations made against Julius Abure by another faction of the party led by Nenadi Usman. He called those allegations “a big joke.”
“You see, those people are jokers. Imagine Nenadi that is not even a member of the party leveling allegations and issuing queries. Where does that happen?
“Nenadi coordinated the Obedients group. She worked for Peter Obi and is still working for him. She is not a member of our party. That is why I didn’t include her among those to be expelled soon. You can’t expel someone who’s not one of you. Imagine that Headmistress of Corruption labelling Abure as corrupt. Are you not aware that she has been standing trial for corruption? She is negotiating a plea-bargain right now. She’s the Headmistress of corruption,” Arabambi said.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it has not yet recognised any new leadership in the Labour Party. INEC explained that it is still reviewing recent court judgments related to the party’s leadership.
In April 2025, the Supreme Court dismissed a decision by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had earlier confirmed Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman.

I paid N16 million for Mohbad’s second autopsy – Singer’s father claims 9 May 2025, 3:49 pm

The father of late singer Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, says he paid a pathologist ₦16 million for his son’s second autopsy.
Speaking during a TikTok live session, Aloba insisted, “With all sincerity, I paid the first tranche of ₦16 million to the pathologist. After that, I spent close to ₦2 million. So, if the pathologist can come out to deny my claim, then don’t believe me again.
Some people were saying it was ₦12 million that I paid, but I’m still telling you now that I paid ₦16 million.”
This revelation comes a month after an independent autopsy and forensic medical review by Dr. Uwom Eze failed to determine Mohbad’s cause of death.
In June 2024, a Coroner’s Court magistrate in Ikorodu, Lagos State, granted permission to hire a licensed pathologist for this follow-up examination.

Dr. BUKOLA SARAKI’s 2027 Game Plan Revealed 9 May 2025, 3:50 am
What is most likely going to be Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s next move? Is he going to decamp to SDP or join APC? Or will he stay on in PDP?
Those are the big questions many people have been asking for quite some time now.
For months now he has been quiet though he has continued to play politics.
In fact since his mum died, he has kept mum until recently when news broke that he was likely to move to SDP, a news that was promptly denied. He has come out to openly say that he is still in PDP and that he will remain in the party.
When recently Okowa, the Delta Governor and his team decamped to APC, he came out to say, the exit of the Delta group and other PDP statwart will not affect the party.
Saraki believes a strong opposition is crucial for Nigeria’s Democracy and that PDP can still thrive despite recent defections, such as what happened in Delta State. He says he is committed to staying in the party and working towards its success, particularly in the 2027 election.
Saraki’s stance on the recent defections is that those who want to leave should do so now, enabling the party to have a clear view of its members loyalty.
Saraki’s vision for the PDP involves rebuilding and refocusing the party to play a more effective role in the country’s space.
Dr. Bukola Saraki’s game plan revolves around positioning himself for political advantages, as it relates to 2027 presidential elections. Insiders say he is most likely to run for presidency in 2027. Recall that Saraki declared his intention to run for presidency in 2023.
